This standard specifies the terms, definitions, symbols, tolerances, identification and test methods for surface imperfections of optical elements.
This standard is applicable to the transmission and reflection surfaces with surface roughness Rz≤0.1μm of optical elements processed by polishing, edging, injection molding, coating, etc., and it may also be referenced by the transmission and reflection surfaces of optical elements processed by scribing, gluing, coating, etc.

3 Terms, definitions and symbols
3.1 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1.1
surface imperfections
defects such as pits, stains, scratches and edge chips on the surface of optical elements. Surface imperfections other than coating layer imperfections, long scratches and edge chips are also called general surface imperfections (hereinafter referred to as general imperfections)
3.1.2
pit; pitting
tiny point-like cavities on the surface of optical elements, including open bubbles, broken points, and sand marks left after fine grinding or accurate grinding. The pits corresponding to the basic grade number of general imperfection tolerance are called coarse pits, and those with grade number smaller than the basic grade number of general imperfection tolerance are called fine pits
