GB 20182-2024 External projections for cabs of commercial vehicles
1 Scope
This document specifies the terms and definitions, general requirements, special requirements and test methods for external projections of the bodywork before the rear panel of the cabs of commercial vehicles.
This document is applicable to motor vehicles of Category N.
This document is not applicable to external devices for indirect vision and their connectors, antennas, luggage racks, and other accessories.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain requirements which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
external surface
external surface of the bodywork before the rear panel of the cab
Note: This does not include the rear panel itself but includes the front fender, bumper, and front wheels.
3.2
cab
the bodywork that forms the passenger compartment
Note: Doors are included.
3.3
cab rear panel
rear panel of the cab used to connect the left and right side panels
Notes:
1. For vehicles where the position of the cab rear panel cannot be determined, if there is one row of seats in the cab, this document considers that the transverse vertical plane located 500 mm behind the R-point of the driver’s seat (with the R-point determined in accordance with GB/T 29120) as the cab rear panel. If there is more than one row of seats in the cab, this document considers the transverse vertical plane tangent to the backrest of the rearmost passenger's seat adjusted to its rearmost position as the cab rear panel
2. For vehicles where the position of the rear cowl of the cab cannot be determined, if there is a row of seats in the cab, this document identifies the transverse vertical plane 500 mm rear at point R of the driver's seat (point R is determined according to GB/T 29120) as the rear cowl of the cab. If there is more than one row of seats in the cab, this document identifies the transverse vertical plane tangent to the back of the last row of passenger seats adjusted to the last position as the rear cowl of the cab.
3.4
reference plane
horizontal plane passing through the center of the front wheels or 500 mm above the ground when the vehicle is laden, whichever is lower
3.5
floor line
geometric trajectory formed by the continuous contact points between a cone with a half angle of 30° and the lowest contactable positions on the external surface of a laden vehicle
Notes:
1. The cone height may be determined at your discretion, based on the principle of convenient operation, with the apex upward and the axis perpendicular to the horizontal plane.
2. When determining the floor line, you shall not take into account the exhaust pipes, wheels and functional mechanical elements mounted under the vehicle body, such as jack supporting points, suspension devices or connectors used in the event of towing or breakdown. The gap between the wheel and the wheel arch may be imagined as smoothed out, and the bumper shall be considered when determining the floor line of the vehicle. For a specific vehicle model, the contact points may be at the bumper ends or the panel below the bumper. If there are two or more contact points, take the lowest to determine the floor line.
3.6
radius of curvature
radius of the arc of the circle which approximates most to the curved form of the part in question
3.7
bumper
lower external member at the front of the vehicle
Note: This includes all structures and their accessories to protect the vehicle in the event of a low speed frontal collision.
3.8
bumper cover
non-rigid external surface of the bumper
3.9
front hood
lid of the powertrain compartment and/or luggage compartment located in front of the windshield
3.10
surveillance camera-monitor-recording device
cameras, monitors or recording devices installed inside or outside the vehicle for observing the fields of vision not covered by GB 15084, or for monitoring the interior or surroundings of the vehicle for safety purposes
Note: This excludes the camera-monitor system defined in GB 15084-2022, 3.12.
3.11
surveillance mirror
mirror installed inside or outside the vehicle for observing supplementary fields of vision

4 General requirements
4.1 When the vehicle is unladen, and the doors, windows, and various covers are closed, the following external surface parts of the bodywork before the cab rear panel shall meet the requirements of this document:
a) Parts not higher than 2 m from the ground;
b) Parts not lower than the reference plane or floor line, subject to the determination of the vehicle manufacturer;
c) Parts that can be touched by a sphere with a diameter of 100 mm in a stationary state;
d) If the reference plane is chosen as the lower limit for the inspection area as per 4.1 b), parts falling between two vertical planes, one touching the external surface of the bodywork and the other 80 mm inward in parallel with this plane.
4.2 The external surface of the bodywork shall be free of any parts directly facing outward that could injure people such as pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists.
4.3 Bodywork parts specified in Clause 5 shall be free of any outward-facing sharp parts or projections that could increase the risk of scrapes or crush injuries in a collision due to their shape, dimension, orientation, or hardness.
4.4 When the material hardness of external projecting parts on the bodywork does not exceed 60 HA, the radius of curvature of the projecting parts is allowed to be less than that specified in Clause 5.
