Protective Clothing - Mechanical Protective Clothing
1 Scope
This document specifies the performance levels, technical requirements, markings, and information to be provided by the manufacturer of mechanical protective clothing, and describes test methods.
This document applies to protective aprons, trousers, and vests worn during hand-held knife operations, as well as similar clothing designed to protect body parts from accidents.

3 Terms and Definitions
Terms defined in GB/T 12903, ISO 13998, and the following apply:
3.1 Mechanical protective clothing
Clothing protecting against at least one type of mechanical injury (cutting/stabbing) from hand-held knives.
Note: Typical types see Appendix A.
3.2 Divided apron
Clothing vertically split in the thigh area and separately constrained on each leg.

3.3 Protective trousers
Garment worn below the waist with independent leg sections.

3.4 Protective vest
Garment covering the torso, including chest, waist, shoulders, and partial upper arms.

4 Performance Levels
Level 1: Lower hazard environments (e.g., wide-blade operations).
Level 2: Higher hazard environments (e.g., deboning with narrow blades).
Notes: See Appendix B for typical knife types.
5 Technical Requirements
5.1 Safety
No sharp edges, rough seams, or pinch points.
Nickel release from skin-contact metals <0.5 μg/(cm²·week).
5.2 Size
Comply with GB 20097; height/waist required for waist-above garments.
5.3 Minimum Protection Dimensions
5.3.1 Aprons
Undivided:
l1 > 22% of height, l2 > 20%, l3 > 6%
l5 > 45% waist, l6/l7 > 45%/25% chest
Divided:
Split height ≤12% of height
Overlap width >10% waist
5.3.2 Trousers
Continuous protection from waist to knee, covering front thighs and extending to mid-coronal plane.
Vertical length >30% of height.
5.3.3 Vests
Armpit coverage >45% chest
Shoulder-to-bottom length >35% height
Sleeve-to-neck length >42% chest
Neckline <55% chest
