3 Terms and definitions
Terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 12903 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 Protective clothing for sandblasting operations
Protective clothing produced in specified styles and structures to provide safety protection for operators during sandblasting operations.
3.2 Sandblasting operations
The process of high-speed projection of abrasives onto workpieces for surface treatment.
Note 1: Through the impact and abrasion of abrasives on the workpiece surface, the workpiece surface achieves the required cleanliness and roughness, thereby improving the mechanical properties of the workpiece.
Note 2: Sandblasting operations involved in processes such as rust removal, casting, and spraying.
4 Classification and styles
Protective clothing for sandblasting operations shall be classified according to Table 1. The styles of protective clothing for sandblasting operations are shown in Appendix A.
Table 1 Classification of protective clothing for sandblasting operations
5 Requirements
5.1 General requirements
5.1.1 The size of protective clothing for sandblasting operations shall be set according to GB 20097. If it exceeds the range of GB 20097, it shall be adjusted according to the grade difference.
5.1.2 The finished product size measurement shall comply with the allowable deviation of the specified size as stipulated in FZ/T 81007.
5.1.3 The physical and chemical performance indicators of the fabric for protective clothing for sandblasting operations shall meet the requirements of Table 2.
Table 2 Physical and chemical performance of fabrics
5.1.4 When exposed to liquid jetting, the contaminated area formed by liquid penetration on the indicator clothing shall be less than 3 times the standard contaminated area.
5.1.5 The seam strength of finished clothing shall be greater than or equal to 200 N.
5.1.6 The finished clothing shall not show holes or tears when impacted by abrasives.
5.2 Design and practical performance requirements for Type B, C, and D sandblasting protective clothing
5.2.1 In addition to meeting the requirements of 5.1, Type B, C, and D sandblasting protective clothing shall pass the practical performance test without defects that hinder the operator from completing normal operations, and shall have a dust-proof structural design.
5.2.2 All openings on Type B, C, and D sandblasting protective clothing shall have a dust-proof structure, and the protective clothing shall have no pockets.
5.2.3 Type B, C, and D sandblasting protective clothing shall have ventilation designs. In the practical performance evaluation, when the tester is in a squatting position with arms bent, the supplied air shall be able to flow through the openings of the sleeves and legs of the clothing or through the set valves.
5.2.4 The hoods provided with Type B, C, and D sandblasting protective clothing shall meet the requirements of clauses 5.3 and 5.4 of GB 6220-2023.
6 Test methods
6.1 The breaking strength of the fabric shall be tested according to the method specified in GB/T 3923.1.
6.2 The tearing strength of the fabric shall be tested according to the method specified in GB/T 3917.3.
6.3 The puncture resistance of the fabric shall be tested according to the method specified in GB/T 20654.
6.4 The abrasion resistance of the fabric shall be tested according to the method specified in GB 24541-2022, with 4 specimens taken.
6.5 The flame self-extinguishing performance of the fabric shall be tested according to the method specified in Appendix B.
6.6 The point-to-point resistance of the fabric shall be tested according to the method specified in Appendix A of GB 12014-2019.
6.7 The liquid jetting protection performance of finished clothing shall be tested according to Method 1 specified in Appendix C of GB 24539-2025.
6.8 The seam strength of finished clothing shall be tested according to the method specified in GB/T 13773.1. Five specimens shall be cut from the seam parts of the clothing, with the seam direction at 90° to the force direction. The lowest value shall be taken as the test result.
6.9 The sandblasting protection performance of finished clothing shall be tested according to the method specified in Appendix C.
6.10 The practical performance evaluation of finished clothing shall be tested according to the method specified in GB/T 23465-2009, and the content of practical performance evaluation movements shall comply with the provisions of Appendix D.
