3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Class A foam extinguishing agent
A foam extinguishing agent used for extinguishing Class A fires and providing thermal protection.
3.2 Characteristic value
Physical and chemical performance parameters of foam concentrate and foam solution proposed by the manufacturer.
3.3 Foam concentrate
A concentrated liquid that forms a foam solution when mixed with water in an appropriate proportion.
3.4 Foam solution
A solution prepared by mixing foam concentrate with water at a specified proportion.
3.5 25% drainage time
The time required for 25% of the liquid mass to drain from the foam.
3.6 Expansion ratio
The ratio of the volume of foam to the volume of foam solution used to produce it.
3.7 Mixing proportion
The volume fraction of foam concentrate in the foam solution when mixed with water.
3.8 Lowest useful temperature
A temperature 5°C above the freezing point.
3.9 Compressed air foam systems
Foam generation systems that introduce a controlled amount of air into the foam solution to produce foams with varying expansion ratios and states.
4 Model Designation
The model designation for Class A foam extinguishing agents is: MJAP (freezing point characteristic value)-seawater resistant (manufacturer-defined).
Example 1: MJAP(-10°C)-seawater resistant, indicating a Class A foam extinguishing agent suitable for freshwater and seawater, with a freezing point of -10°C.
Example 2: MJAP(-15°C), indicating a Class A foam extinguishing agent suitable for freshwater only, with a freezing point of -15°C.
5 Requirements
5.1 General Requirements
Manufacturers shall declare the following for their Class A foam extinguishing agent products:
a) Product model.
b) Susceptibility to freezing/thawing.
c) Temperature sensitivity of the foam concentrate.
d) Water compatibility: suitable for freshwater, or both freshwater and seawater.
e) Freezing point characteristic value: T (°C).
f) Characteristic values for extinguishing Class A fires.
Mixing proportion characteristic value: Code HA, HA shall not exceed 0.5%.
25% drainage time characteristic value: Code tA (min).
Expansion ratio characteristic value: Code FA.
g) Mixing proportion characteristic value for thermal protection: Code HG, HG shall not exceed 1.0%.
5.2 Technical Requirements
5.2.1 The performance of Class A foam extinguishing agent concentrate shall comply with the requirements of Table 1.
Table 1 Performance Requirements for Class A Foam Extinguishing Agent Concentrate
6 Test Methods
6.1 Sampling and Temperature Treatment
6.1.1 Sampling
When sampling from the product packaging containers of Class A foam extinguishing agent, the contents shall be thoroughly mixed.
The sample quantity for temperature treatment in accordance with 6.1.2 shall be no less than 5 kg, and the sample shall completely fill the storage container and be sealed.
