3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 powered support
Equipment that uses hydraulic power to achieve movement such as lifting and advancing, for roof support.
3.2 2-leg shield powered support
A powered support that is supported by two legs between the canopy and the base and has a caving shield.
3.3
4-leg shield powered support
A powered support that is supported by four legs between the canopy and the base and has a caving shield.
3.4
check support
A powered support that is supported by legs between the canopy and the base without a caving shield.
3.5
powered support in A class
Powered supports designed for working faces with an annual output of over 5 million tons or those required by users for high reliability design.
3.6
powered support in B class
Powered supports other than Class A.
3.7
basic shield support
General hydraulic supports used in the middle part of the coal mining face.
3.8
support components
The main components of the support that bear and transmit roof pressure.
NOTE: Includes the canopy, caving shield, linkages or legs, and base.
3.9
canopy
The component of the support that is in direct contact with the roof and transmits the supporting force.
NOTE: A single or combined component.
3.10
base
The component of the support that is in direct contact with the floor and transmits the supporting force of the support to the floor.
NOTE: A single or combined component.
3.11
goaf shield
The component of the support that directly connects the canopy and the base (or through linkages) to transmit the support load and the pressure from the caved roof rock, and shields the working face from the goaf.
3.12
linkage
A component that connects the goaf shield and the base to form a four-bar linkage.
3.13
support accessories
Components that do not bear the supporting force of the support but are necessary to ensure the support's functionality.
3.14
advancing mechanism
The device that is hinged at the front end of the support canopy and is used to support the coal wall, preventing debris and coal from falling into the working face area at the front of the support.
