Safety specification for explosion protection in combustible dust collection system
1 Scope
This document specifies the general requirements, process system and equipment requirements, explosion control measures, monitoring and early warning requirements, and operational safety management requirements for dust collection system used in areas subject to dust explosion hazardous. It also describes the corresponding verification methods.
This document is applicable to the design, manufacture, installation, acceptance, use, and maintenance of dust collection system used in areas subject to dust explosion hazardous.
This standard is not applicable to the areas with dusts, including those in coal mines and with fireworks, explosives, powders and strong oxidants.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 15604 and the following apply.
3.1
dust
fine solid particles that can settle down by their own weight and remain suspended in the air for a period of time in the atmospheric environment
3.2
combustible dust
dust, fibers or flyings that can undergo intense oxidation reactions with gaseous oxidants in the atmospheric environment
Note: The gaseous oxidant is primarily air. Combustible dust can cause a dust explosion under certain conditions.
3.3
area subject to dust explosion hazardous
area where there is a risk of combustible dust explosion in the atmospheric environment
3.4
dust collection system
system consisting of dust hood, air duct, dust collector, fan and control device, designed to capture solid particles in a gas-solid flow
3.5
dust collector
device or equipment for separating and capturing dust from dusty gas
3.6
dry dust collector
dust collector that does not use liquid (water) to capture dust in dusty gas
3.7
wet dust collector/wet scrubber
dust collector that utilizes the scrubbing action of a liquid to separate dust from dusty gas
Note: In wet dust collector/wet scrubber, the liquid is typically water.
3.8
gravity dust collector
inertial dust collector or building (structure) where dust is separated by gravity
3.9
cyclone collector
device that separates dust or liquid droplets from gas by centrifugal force generated by gas movement
3.10
porous layer dust collector
dust collector that uses the filtering effect of porous media to collect dust in dusty gas
Note: Including bag filter, plastic burning plate filter and filter cartridge filter.
3.11
dust cleaning
process of removing the accumulated dust layer from the filter medium to restore its filtration capacity
3.12
inside filtration
process that dusty airflow flows from the inside to the outside of the bag to capture dust by the inner side of the filter device (including the filter bag)
3.13
electrostatic precipitator
dust collector that utilizes a high-voltage electric field to separate dust from dusty gas by adsorbing charged dust particles
3.14
plug-in dust collector
dust collector whose bottom of the dusty air chamber is directly connected to the process equipment
Note: Process equipment includes bins and buckets.
3.15
non-enclosed cabinet dust collector
semi-enclosed dust collector where the side wall of the filter bag or cartridge housing is directly connected to the work area
3.16
wet dust removal integrated equipment
integrated equipment that utilizes the scrubbing action of a liquid to separate dust from dusty gas while capturing and collecting it, incorporating an exhaust hood, ducting, dust collector, fan, and control device
3.17
dry dust removal integrated equipment
integrated equipment that separates and captures dust from dusty gas without using liquids (water) while capturing and collecting it, incorporating an exhaust hood, ducting, dust collector, fan, and control device
3.18
honey comb dust collector
dust collector used for collecting fibers in textile processes
Note: The filter media of the honey comb dust collector body is disc-shaped, and cleaning is performed by rotating suction arms installed within the dusty air chamber.
3.19
explosion-proof device
device that employs dust explosion prevention and control technology to avoid the formation of dust clouds or potential ignition sources, thereby reducing the hazards of an explosion
Note: Such as explosion venting, inerting, explosion isolation, and explosion suppression devices.
4 General requirements
4.1 The design and selection of a dust collection system shall be based on dust explosion risk assessment, production processes, environmental protection, and occupational health requirements.
4.2 Dust collection systems shall be set up relatively independently for different process area (or zone).A single system shall not be shared under any of the following circumstances:
a) Different types of dust that may aggravate the explosion hazard after mixing;
b) Combustible dust and combustible gas (including steam);
c) Dust production points in two or more independent buildings (structures);
d) Dust production points in different fire zones of the same building (structure);
e) Process dust removal system and environmental cleaning system.
4.3 The grinding room, powder screening room and steel shot blasting room of metal powder additive manufacturing (3D printing) shall be equipped with relatively independent dust collection systems by process area (or zone).
4.4 When combustible dust coexists with combustible gas, measures shall be taken to prevent the explosion of combustible gas and combustible dust.
4.5 Dust collection systems in different buildings (structures) or different fire compartments shall not be connected via dust collection ducts, exhaust ducts, or fans.
4.6 Combustible dust shall not share an exhaust chimney with combustible or corrosive waste gas; the rear ends of fans of dust collection system of combustible metal dust and of other dust collection systems shall not share an exhaust chimney.
4.7 Dust collection system shall not use electric dust collector or gravity dust collector for dust collection.
4.8 Porous dry dust collection system shall not adopt inside filtration dust collection.
4.9 Dry dust collection system shall employ one or more explosion control measures, such as explosion venting, explosion isolation, explosion suppression, explosion resistance or inerting, but shall not employ explosion isolation alone.
4.10 When the dry dust collection system is connected with the process equipment which is easy to generate high temperature, sparks and other ignition sources, precautions shall be taken in the air inlet pipeline of the dust collection system.
