3 Terms, definitions and symbols
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
Instantaneous friction coefficient
φk
function of speed v, the ratio of braking force to applied force on brake pad at every moment of the braking process
3.2
average friction coefficient
φs
integral of the instantaneous friction coefficient over the braking distance Se, see formula (1):
(1)
Where,
Se — braking distance from the time of applied force on brake pad reaches 95% of the specified value to the time of stopping.
3.3
applied force on brake pad
K
normal force applied on a brake shoe during braking
4 Classification
4.1 Composite brake shoes for rolling stock (referred to as brake shoes) are classified into composite brake shoes for locomotive (referred to as brake shoes for locomotive) and composite brake shoes for vehicle (referred to as brake shoes for vehicle).
4.2 Brake shoes are classified into, according to the high and low friction coefficients, the following 2 types: high friction coefficient composite brake shoes, friction coefficient grade being H (hereinafter referred to as Type H brake shoes); low friction coefficient composite brake shoes, friction coefficient grade being L (hereinafter referred to as Type L brake shoes).
4.3 Type H brake shoes for locomotive is suitable for locomotive with axle load not more than 25t, including JH1 and JH2 brake shoes. JH1 brake shoes are suitable for DC drive locomotive, JH2 brake shoes are suitable for AC drive locomotive.
4.4 Type L brake shoes for locomotive is JL brake shoes, which is suitable for DC drive locomotive with axle load not more than 23t.
4.5 Type H brake shoes for vehicle include LH1, LH2 and LH3 brake shoes; LH1 brake shoes are suitable for vehicle with maximum running speed not more than 100km/h and axle load of 27t to 30t; LH2 brake shoes are suitable for vehicle with maximum running speed not more than 120km/h and axle load not more than 25t; The LH3 brake shoes are suitable for vehicle with a maximum running speed of not more than 100km/h and an axle load of not more than 25t.
4.6 LH2 and LH3 brake shoes for vehicle include two specifications with nominal thickness of 45mm and 50mm.
4.7 Type L brake shoes for vehicle is LL brake shoes, which are suitable for the vehicle with the maximum running speed not exceeding 90km/h and the axle load not exceeding 21t.
5 Technical requirements
5.1 General requirements
Under normal application conditions and specified application limits:
a) The braking frictional property of brake shoes shall meet the requirements of this part;
b) Brake shoes shall not be broken; the brake shoe nose does not cause loosening and deformation affecting the use and disassembly; the friction body does not produce deformation, falling off, damage and falling block and other defects; friction surface does not produce uplift, ablation and other defects; cracks may appear in the middle groove of LL brake shoes for vehicle.
c) Brake shoes shall not make uneven abrasion, ditch-shaped abrasion and plough-shaped abrasion on wheel tread; the friction surface of brake shoes shall not generate metal inlays that brings the above-mentioned wheel damages or affects the abrasion performance of braking friction. The metal inlays shall be able to fall off.
d) The wheel tread shall not have damages like hot spot, heat crack and thermal spalling and the adhesion coefficient of wheel-rail shall not be declined obviously due to the reason of brake shoes.
e) The brake shoes shall not generate continuous strident noise.
