Determination of copper content in light petroleum (spectrophotometric method)
1 Subject content and applicable scope
This standard specifies the spectrophotometric method for determination of copper content of samples after oxidation, extraction and complexation.
This standard is applicable to light petroleum such as gasoline and jet fuel with alkene content less than 2 %.
2 Normative references
GB/T 1884 Crude petroleum and liquid petroleum products—Laboratory determination of density—Hydrometer method
GB/T 4756 Method for manual sampling of petroleum liquids
3 Method summary
Oxidize the sample by sodium hypochlorite, and then extract by dilute hydrochloric acid for copper separation. Then, dissolve the sample in a alkalescent solution. With ammonium citrate as a masking agent, a yellow complex is produced by lead diethyldithiocarbamate and copper ions in isooctane solvent for colorimetric determination.
