Thickness testing method of the metal deposits and conversion coatings for the light industrial products - Metallographic microscopic method
This method specifies the requirements on observation and determination of the thickness of deposits/coatings on the cross-sections of parts directly with a metallographic microscope with appropriate magnification. It may be applied to the thickness determination of deposits/coatings on different bases, but such determination method may achieve a reduced accuracy of determination when the deposits are thin. It can obtain a best absolute measurement accuracy of ±0.8μm.
This standard is developed by reference to the international standard ISO 1463-1982 Metallic and oxide coatings - Measurement of coating thickness - Microscopical method.
1 Principle
The method in this standard is to use a metallographic microscope with a certain scale to directly measure the local thickness of deposits/coatings on the cross-sections of specimens which are prepared by metallographic method.
2 Apparatus
All types of calibrated metallographic microscopes with micrometer eyepieces may be used in this method.
3 Procedure
3.1 Specimen cutting: Generally, one or several specimens may be cut from the main surface of parts. Unless otherwise specified, these specimens shall be cut on representative parts by the cutting method not affecting the accuracy of measurement.
