This standard replaces JC/T 548-1994. In addition to a number of editorial changes, the following technical changes have been made with respect to JC/T 548-1994:
——the product classification is modified (see Clause 4; Clause 4 of Edition 1994);
——the product grade is canceled (see Clause 5; Clause 5 of Edition 1994);
——the technical requirements for pH value and drying time of wallpaper adhesive are modified (see Clause 5; Clause 5 of Edition 1994);
——the nonvolatile matter and 180° peeling strength of wallpaper adhesive are added, and the dry adhesion is deleted (see 5.1 hereof; Clause 5 of Edition 1994);
——the technical requirements for wallpaper primer are added (see 5.2 hereof);
——the limits of harmful substances in wallpaper adhesives are added (see 5.3 hereof);
——the standard paper-backing requirements for testing are modified (see 6.3.2 hereof; 6.1 of Edition 1994).
This standard was proposed by China Building Materials Federation.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Lightweight and Decorative Building Materials of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 195).
The previous edition of this standard is as follows:

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
wallpaper primer
water-based material coated on the substrate to prevent excessive absorption of wallpaper adhesive due to the porosity of the substrate and adverse effects on wallpaper adhesive or wallpaper caused by extract at bottom layer
3.2
wet clay
initial adhesion of the adhesive to the adhered substrate when the adhesive layer is in a wet state
3.3
the paper web
one side of paper affixed to the paper machine's copper mesh (i.e. the reverse side), while the other side is the non-web side (i.e. the front side)
4 Classification and designation
4.1 Classification
4.1.1 Wallpaper adhesive products are classified into wallpaper adhesive and wallpaper primer.
4.1.2 Wallpaper adhesive, by its basic performance, consists of:
Common type (Type I)——generally used for common paper-backing wallpaper.
Enhanced type (Type II)——generally used for wallpaper with high wet adhesion and high strength requirements.
4.1.3 Wallpaper adhesive, by physical form, consists of:
Liquid adhesive (Y)——adhesive in liquid form at normal temperature.
Powdered adhesive (F)——adhesive in powder form at normal temperature.
Pasty adhesive (II)——adhesive in paste form at normal temperature.
4.2 Designation
Designation is made according to product name, basic performance, physical form and standard number.
For example: The common powdered wallpaper adhesive is designated as:
Wallpaper adhesive, Type I, F, JC/T 548-2016
