1 Scope
This standard specifies the magnetic particle inspection and evaluation methods for crankshafts and camshafts of internal combustion engines.
This standard is applicable to the inspection and evaluation for surface and near-surface flaws of crankshafts and camshafts used in reciprocating internal combustion engines with cylinder bore diameter less than or equal to 200mm.

The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated references, subsequent amendments to (excluding correction to), or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this part are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document applies.

JB/T 9744 internal combustion engines - Magnetic particle inspection for parts and components
3 Inspection methods
According to JB/T 9744, DC electromagnetization method is preferred for ductile iron crankshafts and camshafts.
4 Personnel qualification
The personnel engaged in magnetic particle inspection for crankshafts or camshafts shall:
a) be qualified and certified in accordance with GB/T 9445 and obtain certificates of corresponding levels;
