1 General Provisions
1.0.1 This standard is formulated for the purpose of guiding the size selection of steel pipes in chemical piping design to achieve safety and usability, economic rationality and guaranteed quality.
1.0.2 This standard is applicable to steel pipe size selection in the construction of the constructed, renovated or extended chemical engineering.
1.0.3 This standard is not applicable to size selection of the following steel pipes:
1 Steel pipes used for such chemical equipment (non-piping) as the heat exchanger pipe bundle.
2 Steel pipes specified in "General Design of High Pressure Pipe, Fitting, Gasket and Bolting" (H3-67).
1.0.4 In addition to this standard, the size of steel pipes used for chemical piping shall also comply with the requirements of the relevant national standards.
2 Outside Diameter & Wall Thickness of Steel Pipe
2.0.1 This standard specifies three size series, i.e. Ia, Ib and II series.
2.0.2 Series Ia.
Series Ia is the preferred series and is the basic series of the steel pipes used for chemical piping; the outside diameter of steel pipes is equivalent to the one in ISO 4200: 1991 while the wall thickness is expressed by "Schedule Number" (Sch. No. for short) or wall thickness value.
Size and theoretical mass per unit length of DN6~DN600 steel pipes may adopt values according to these specified in Table 2.0.2-1. Wall thickness value of Schedule Number in the Table adopts the value given in ASME B36.10M-2004 and ASME B36.19M-2004 while through rounding, then, adopt the similar wall thickness value given in ISO 4200: 1991.
Size and theoretical mass per unit length of DN650~DN2000 large-diameter welded steel pipes may adopt values according to these specified in Table 2.0.2-2. Outside diameter and wall thickness values of steel pipes in the Table adopt the size in API Spec 5L-2004 while through rounding and shall meet the requirements of ISO 4200: 1991.
2.0.3 Series Ib.
Series Ib is the substitutive series of Series Ia. Outside diameter of steel pipes adopts the outside diameter of Series Ia through rounding and shall meet the outside diameter and wall thickness values of steel pipes specified in "Dimensions, Shapes, Masses and Tolerances of Seamless Steel Tubes" (GB/T 17395-2008).
Size and theoretical mass per unit length of steel pipes may adopt values according to these specified in Table 2.0.3.
2.0.4 Series II.
Series II is the carry-over series.
Size and theoretical mass per unit length of DN10~DN600 steel pipes may adopt values according to these specified in Table 2.0.4-1. Size of seamless steel pipes in the Table shall meet the requirements of "Dimensions, Shapes, Masses and Tolerances of Seamless Steel Tubes" (GB/T 17395-2008).
Size and theoretical mass per unit length of DN700~DN2000 large-diameter welded steel pipes may adopt values according to these specified in Table 2.0.4-2.
2.0.5 Selection of wall thickness.
Where selection of wall thickness mainly depends on internal pressure resistance under given conditions, the designer shall calculate the exact wall thickness value according to the specific requirements of codes for pressure pipeline and conditions required by the pipeline, and then select a wall thickness value which is suitable for the calculated value and is able to meet the pipeline required conditions from the tables listed in this standard.
