This specification is prepared based on the former national standard GB 2021-89 and by reference to the American military specification MIL-F-16884H (2)-1985 Fuel, naval distillate.
The main differences with respect to GB 2021-89 Military diesel fuels are as follows: the quality classification is cancelled, and two determination items, namely kinematic viscosity at 40℃ and pour point, and their quality indexes are added.
Specification for military diesel fuels

3 Requirements
3.1 Qualification appraisal
Products submitted according to this specification shall be qualified ones.
3.2 Material
As for the samples passing the appraisal procedures specified by the state, its raw materials and processing technology shall be used to produce the products of this specification.
3.3 Physical and chemical properties
The physical and chemical properties of products in this specification shall meet the requirements of Table 1, and the following supplementary requirements shall be made.
3.3.1 The -50# military diesel fuels with kinematic viscosity less than 3.0mm2/s at 20℃ may be delivered after negotiation between the supplier and the purchaser.
For -35# and -50# hydrogenated military diesel fuels, the kinematic viscosity shall not be less than 2.3mm2/s.
3.3.2 When the sulphur content of crude oil is greater than 0.5%(m/m), the military diesel fuel is allowed to be delivered with a sulphur content of not greater than 0.3%(m/m).
3.3.3 From May to October, the military diesel fuel is allowed to be delivered according to the trace index in term of water content. Military diesel fuels in refineries south of the Yangtze River (including Hubei province) are allowed to be delivered according to the trace index throughout the year.
