3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

coli form bacteria
a group of aerobic and facultative anaerobic non-spore forming gram-negative bacillus capable of fermenting lactose, producing acid and gas. The bacteria mainly come from human and animal feces, it is therefore used as an index of fecal pollution to evaluate the hygienic quality of food and infer whether there is the possibility of contaminating intestinal pathogenic bacteria in food
the number of coil form bacteria in food is expressed by the most probable number (MPN) of coil form bacteria in 100 mL (g) sample
