This standard is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of SAC/TC 280 National Technical Committee on Petroleum Products and Lubricants of Standardization Administration of China.
Introduction
This method is developed to judge the tendency of gasoline deposits on engine intake valves by the amount of the deposits generated by simulating the process of generating deposits on the intake valve of an intake injection engine; it is applied for the evaluation of gasoline cleanliness and the development of gasoline detergents. Compared with the engine test, this method has the advantages such as short test time, small amount of samples, and low investment in instruments and equipment.
Test method for evaluating gasoline cleanliness - Simulation test of intake valve deposit (IVD) of gasoline engine
Warning —— This standard involves some dangerous materials, operations and equipment, but it does not purport to address of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and protection measures and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the simulation test for intake valve deposits (IVD) in intake injection gasoline engine, which is used to evaluate the tendency of deposits on gasoline engine intake valves.
This standard is applicable to vehicle gasoline and vehicle gasoline detergents.
Note: The applicability of this standard to the test conditions of vehicle ethanol gasoline has not yet been identified, and needs be verified in the relevance to the engines.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
intake valve deposit, IVD
substances, generated by fuels, lubricants and additives or drawn externally, which are deposited on the surface of the intake valve
3.2
calibration reference fuel
stable fuel, with gasoline characteristics, used to calibrate the gasoline engine IVD simulation tester
3.3
calibration reference detergent
gasoline detergent, used to calibrate the gasoline engine IVD simulation tester, which is added with a specified amount of calibration reference fuel and generates a certain mass of deposits
3.4
deposit accelerant
substance which accelerate the generation of the deposits, similar to IVDs generated in a long run, on a metal surface in a high-temperature, oxygenic environment
4 Summary of test method
In the specified test conditions, a specific amount of the sample is mixed with air through a nozzle and injected onto a deposit collector that has been weighed and heated to the test temperature; after such simulation of gasoline engine IVD generation, the deposit collector is weighed and photographed.
