Test method for leather shoes - Water vapour absorption and permeability
1 Scope
This standard specifies the test method for determining the water vapour absorption and permeability of whole leather shoes.
This standard is applicable to whole-vamp leather shoes for general use. This standard may serve as a reference for whole-vamp casual shoes, travel shoes, etc.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
water vapour absorption
ability of a whole shoe to absorb water vapour under certain conditions and within a certain time. It is expressed by the mass of water vapour absorbed by the whole shoe within a specified time
3.2
water vapour permeability
ability of a whole shoe to permeate water vapour under certain conditions and within a certain time. It is expressed by the mass of water vapour permeating the whole shoe within a specified time
4 Principle
Simulate the process that the hygrothermal water vapour generated by the foot inside a shoe is absorbed by materials such as the upper, the insole and the inner sole and discharged to the outside of the shoe cavity. Inject water vapour with a certain humidity and pressure generated at a certain temperature into the enclosed shoe cavity, and determine the increased mass of the shoe after absorbing water vapour within a specified time to obtain the water vapour absorption of the whole shoe; determine the increased mass of desiccant after absorbing the water vapour through the upper per unit time to obtain the water vapour permeability of the whole shoe.
