1 Scope
This standard specifies the analytical test method for determination of average pore diameter of silica by using mercury porosimeter.
This standard is applicable to precipitated hydrated silica.

3 Principle
An appropriate amount of specimen is degassed in a vacuum station and then immersed with mercury in a permeable filler through a high-pressure system, and the volume of mercury immersed may be recorded according to the applied pressure. The larger the external pressure is, the smaller the radius of the pore into which mercury can enter will be. The volume and average pore diameter of the corresponding pore can be known by measuring the volume of mercury entering the pore under different external pressures.
4 Reagents and materials
