This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 24588-2009 Stainless steel wires for spring. The following technical changes have been made with respect to GB/T 24588-2009:
——The requirements for tolerance of steel wire diameter are strengthened (see 6.2; 6.2 of Edition 2009);
——Four designations (namely 07Cr19Ni10, 06Cr18Ni11Ti, 12Cr18Mn12Ni2N and 04Cr12Ni8Cu2TiNb) and related technical requirements are added (see Tables 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7; Tables 1, 4 and 5 of Edition 2009);
——Some designation representations are adjusted, 06Cr19Ni9 is changed to 06Cr19Ni10, 06Cr19Ni9N is changed to 06Cr19Ni10N, 12Cr17Mn8Ni3Cu3N is changed to 12Cr16Mn8Ni3Cu3N (see Tables 1, 4 and 5; Tables 1, 4 and 5 of Edition 2009);
——The nitrogen contents of 12Cr18Mn9Ni5N and 12Cr16Mn8Ni3Cu3N are tightened and changed from 0.05% ~ 0.30% to 0.05% ~ 0.25% (see Table 4; Table 4 of Edition 2009);
——The dimension range of steel wire torsion test is expanded, and the nominal diameter is changed from 0.50mm~4.00mm to 0.50mm~6.00mm (see 7.5.1; 7.5.1 of Edition 2009);
——The requirements for the surface state of steel wire are modified (see 7.2.2; 7.2.2 of Edition 2009);
——Technical requirements and methods for intergranular corrosion test of austenitic type stainless steel are added (see 7.7 and Table 8);
——Cross-reference of designations between different editions of this standard is added (see Annex A).

Stainless steel spring wires
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, order contents, designation and group, dimension, shape, mass and tolerance, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificate of stainless steel spring wires.
It is applicable to the fabrication austenitic type and precipitation hardening type stainless steel spring wire.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 4240 and GB/T 20878 and the following apply.
3.1
pitch
cut out several circles of steel wire from coil or spool , and put them at free state and cut out a complete circle of steel wire, then suspend it freely at midpoint, the distance between both ends of steel wire coil in the axial direction is the pitch
3.2
diameter of free ring
cut out several circles of steel wire from coil or spool and put them at free state, then cut out a complete circle of steel wire and put it freely on the horizontal plane, the outer diameter of steel wire coil is the diameter of free ring
4 Order contents
Contracts or orders made based on this standard shall cover the following items:
a) reference to this standard;
b) product name;
c) designation;
d) dimension and shape (see Clause 6);
e) weight (or quantity);
f) delivery state (see 7.2);
g) other requirements.
5 Designation and group
Steel wire can be classified into 4 groups according to designation and tensile strength grade, and applicable tensile strength group and corresponding nominal diameter range of each designation is specified in Table 1.

6 Dimension, shape, mass and tolerance
6.1 Nominal diameter range of steel wire is as shown in Table 1
6.2 The tolerance of steel wire diameter shall meet those specified for Grade 11, Table 2, GB/T 342-2017. As agreed by the supplier and purchaser and indicated in the contract, steel wires with other tolerance may be provided.
6.3 The out-of-roundness of steel wire shall not be larger than half of the diameter tolerance.
6.4 Steel wire shall be delivered in coils or spools. The coil shall be neat, and the steel wire in it shall not be scattered, twisted, wrapped or knotted when opening the coil. The spool shall ensure smooth pay-off and the end shall be clearly marked. Its pitch and diameter of free ring shall meet those specified in Table 2.
