1 Scope
This standard provides rules for the designation of terminals of objects within a system.
The principles laid down are primarily intended for use in the electrotechnical and related areas, but are general and applicable to all technical areas. They can be used for systems based on different technologies or for systems combining several technologies.

For the purposes of this standard, the following definitions apply:
3.1 object
entity treated in the process of design, engineering, realization, operation, maintenance and demolition

1 The entity may refer to an abstract or physical object or to a set of information associated with it.
2 Depending on purpose an object may be viewed in different ways, called aspects.
