Fragrance/Flavor substances - Determination of optical rotation
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 14454 specifies a method for determining the optical rotation of fragrance/flavor substances.
This part is applicable to the determination of optical rotation of fragrance/flavor substances; when dealing with solid fragrance/flavor substances, partially solid fragrance/flavor substances, fragrance/flavor substances that are highly viscous at room temperature, or highly colored fragrance/flavor substances, this determination is carried out on a solution of the fragrance/flavor substances.

The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this part of GB/T 14454, constitute provisions of this part. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections), or revisions, of any of these publications do not apply to this part. However, parties to agreements based on this part are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest editions apply to this part.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this part of GB/T 14454, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
optical rotation
angle, expressed in milliradians or degrees of angle, described by the polarization plane of a luminous radiation whose wavelength is 589.3±0.3nm, corresponding to the D lines of sodium, when such light travels through a thickness of 100mm of fragrance/flavor substances under given conditions of temperature
Note: When the determination is carried out on different thickness, the value of optical rotation shall be computed by reference to a thickness of 100mm.
