Portable aviation child restraint device
1 Scope
This document defines the terms and definitions of portable aviation child restraint device, specifies the installation and fixing requirements on civil transport aircraft, the structure of the restraint system, the performance indicators of the restraint system assembly and its components, and the product description and identification requirements, and describes the test methods of combustion test, chemical test, compatibility test, dynamic test and roll-over test.
This document is applicable to the design, production, inspection, product certification, service provision and trade cooperation of portable aviation child restraint device, which are carried by passengers on civil transport aircraft and fixed to the front passenger seat only by waist restraint.
Note: For the purpose of this document, the portable aviation child restraint device does not include that require special installation to the passenger seat, or that require external structures or accessories to support to the passenger seat or that require special webbing to be installed to the passenger seat; it also does not include that for special needs or medical purpose.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
portable aviation child restraint device; PACRD
portable restraint system taken by passengers themselves on civil transport aircraft, that supported only by passenger seats, and fixed only with the waist restraint on the passenger seats (if necessary, belt extension belt may be used) on the forward passenger seats to reduce the injury to children by limiting the movement of children's bodies when the aircraft changes posture, encounters strong airflow or is impacted
3.2
passenger seat
forward passenger seats on civil transport aircraft, including cushions, armrests, decorations and any seating facilities that restrict or restrain passengers' seating space
4 Classification
4.1 Classification of children
Children's physiological characteristics are reflected by their height, weight and age, which are very important for the structure and installation of PACRD. PACRDs shall be used correctly according to children's physiological characteristics. In different stages of children's growth, PACRDs shall be selected according to these characteristics. The classification of children shall be as specified in Annex 1 of CTSO C100c (see Table 1). Table 1 defines three stages of children's growth, and the primary characteristics of each stage are underlined. When children are in between stages, the primary features shall be used to determine the configuration and installation direction of PACRDs.
