This standard replaces GB 12441-2005 Finishing Fire Retardant Paint.
In addition to a number of editorial changes, the following technical changes have been made with respect to GB 12441-2005:
——Classification and type (see Chapter 4) are added;
——Part of technical indexes about physical and chemical properties of finishing fire retardant paint are modified, and defect category in technical requirements is deleted (see 5.2; 4.2 in Edition 2005);
——Tunnel combustion method is replaced with difficult flammability test (see 6.11; Annex B in Edition 2005);
——Inspection rules are modified (see Chapter 7; Chapter 6 in Edition 2005).
This standard was proposed and is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 5907 and the following apply.
3.1
finishing fire resistant coating
the coating on the surface of flammable substrate (e.g. timber, fibre board, paper board and products), with a certain decoration effect, which is capable of expanding and foaming to form insulating protective layer
3.2
difficult flammability
the characteristic of materials difficult to carry out flame combustion under specified test conditions
3.3
char volume
the maximum volume for material char under specified test conditions
4 Classification and Type
4.1 Classification
Finishing fire resistant coating may be classified as follows according to dispersion medium:
a) Water-based finishing fire resistant coating, with water as dispersion medium;
b) Solvent-based finishing fire resistant coating, with organic solvent as dispersion medium.
4.2 Type
Product code of finishing fire resistant coating is expressed with SMT, feature codes of dispersion medium are S (water-based) and R (solvent-based). Type compilation method of finishing fire resistant coating is as follows:
Example:
SMT-S/A, expressing water-based finishing fire resistant coating, enterprise-specified code is A.
5 Technical Requirements
5.1 General requirements
5.1.1 Raw materials used for producing fire resistant coating shall meet the requirements of national environmental protection, occupational health and relevant health laws and regulations.
5.1.2 Specified dispersion medium shall be adopted for coating mixing and dilution.
5.1.3 Any or several of brush coating, spraying, roller coating and blade coating shall be adopted for finishing fire resistant coating construction, drying and curing under normal natural environment conditions; the coating shall be free from pungent smell after complete drying. After film forming, smooth finish shall be formed without obvious unevenness or streak, fines removal, bubble, cracking or spot.
5.2 Technical requirements
Technical indexes of finishing fire resistant coating shall meet the requirements specified in Table 1.
Table 1 Technical Indexes of Finishing Fire Resistant Coating
SN Items Technical indexes
1 Condition in container Uniform, no caking after stirring
2 Fineness/μm ≤90
3 Drying time Surface dry/h ≤5
Hard dry/h ≤24
4 Adhesive force/grade ≤3
5 Flexibility/mm ≤3
6 Impact resistance/cm ≥20
