3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
drive shaft assembly
combination of universal joints, intermediate shafts and parts mounted between the differential or end reduction gear and the hub for transmitting torque and speed
3.2
universal joint
joint mechanism that transmits torque and speed from one end to the other when the angle between the two axes is constant or changed
3.3
fixing joint
universal joint that changes the working angle only
3.4
plunging joint
universal joint that can change the working angle and conduct axial plunging motion
3.5
interconnecting shaft
shaft that connects the differential or the universal joint on end reduction gear side to the universal joint on hub side
3.6
boot
sealing part fixed to the universal joint housing and interconnecting shaft for storing grease and preventing leakage of grease or invasion by foreign objects
3.7
displacement
travel of the plunging joint expansion and plunging
3.8
bending angle
supplementary angle of the input end axis and the output end axis of the universal joint
4 Symbols
For the purposes of this document, the following symbols apply.
K: torsional stiffness, in Newton meters per degree [N·m/(°)];
Ta: damage torque, in Newton meters (N·m);
TIi: input torque at the i operating point, in Newton meters (N·m);
