1 General Provisions
1.0.1 This Code is formulated in order to standardize the technical requirements and working procedures of geotechnical investigation on port, achieve advanced technology, economic rationality, safety and reliability, ensure investigation quality, and improve investment benefits.
1.0.2 This Code is applicable to the geotechnical investigation in the port engineering construction. Geotechnical investigation of navigation buildings and hydraulic buildings in the shipbuilding and repairing yards may make reference to this Code.
1.0.3 Before the design and construction of port engineering, geotechnical investigation must be carried out according to the capital construction procedures.
1.0.4 In the geotechnical investigation on port, state-of-the-art technologies, equipment and processes shall be adopted in an active way, further investigation shall be carried out, extensive collection of data, integrated application of multiple investigation means, practical and realistic attitudes, careful investigation and scientific analysis shall be adopted, construction sites shall be found out and evaluated for their geologic characteristics, environmental characteristics and geotechnical engineering conditions, so as to provide reliable bases for the design and construction of port engineering.
1.0.5 Geotechnical investigation on port shall not only meet the requirements of this Code but also comply with those in the current relevant ones of the nation.
2 Terms and Symbols
2.1 Terms
2.1.1 Geotechnical investigation on port
It refers to the activities including finding out, analyzing and evaluating the geologic and environmental characteristics and geotechnical engineering conditions at the construction site, and compiling the investigation documents according to the requirements of port construction engineering.
2.1.2 Engineering geologic mapping
It refers to the investigation working procedure to observe, measure and describe the engineering geologic conditions at the investigation site, and mark the relevant geologic elements on the topographic map with legends and symbols.
2.1.3 Geotechnical exploration
It refers to one kind of means of geotechnical investigation, including drilling, trenching, costeaning, test pitting, hole exploration, geophysical exploration and penetration sounding.
2.1.4 In-situ monitoring
It refers to the in-situ system monitoring and observation for the rock and soil properties, underground water changes, as well as stress and displacement of rock-soil mass and structures.
2.1.5 In-situ tests
It refers to the test for the rock-soil mass by the rock-soil mass, basically keeping the original structure, humidity and stress state of rock and soil.
2.1.6 Weak structural plane
It refers to the structural plane, extended farther, with smooth walls, and filled with weak materials of certain thickness, such as argillation, softened and fractured thin intercalated layer plane.
2.1.7 Weak intercalated layer
It refers to the thin layer of lower strength intercalated in the rock mass, such as argillation, softened and fractured thin layer.
2.1.8 Adverse geologic actions
They refer to the geologic actions that may be harmful to the engineering construction due to the internal and external agency of the earth.
2.1.9 Rock quality designation
It refers to the ratio (in percent) of the total core section whose drilling length is greater than 10cm per round trip to the footage per round trip in the continuous drilling and coring process in the drill hole with diamond bit (75 mm diameter) and Type N double barrel.
2.1.10 Core recovery
It refers to the ratio (in percent) of the core length drilled per round trip to the footage.
2.1.11 Earthquake subsidence
It refers to the subgrade foundation or ground subsidence generated by high-compression soil softening due to earthquake.
2.1.12 Bedded soil
It refers to the soil by interphase stratification of soils of different properties in the same soil layer, in the cyclothemic sedimentation, and with obvious bedded construction characteristics.
