1 Application scope and instruction
1.0.1 This standard is applicable to process and utility material pipes used in chemical production units, excluding long-distance transport pipes of storage and transport systems, and non-Newtonian fluid and solid particle airflow transport pipes.
1.0.2 For a given flow rate, the size of the pipe diameter is closely related to the one-time investment cost (materials and installation), operating cost (power consumption and maintenance), and depreciation cost of the pipe system, therefore, a decision shall be made based on comparison of these costs and an appropriate pipe diameter shall be selected. In addition, restrictions on safe flow rate and other conditions shall also be considered. The methods and data recommended in this standard are empirical, i.e., the pipe diameter is selected based on a predetermined flow rate or a predetermined pipe pressure drop (setting pressure drop control value), which can be used for estimation during engineering design.
1.0.3 Where the pipe diameter is determined based on the predetermined flow rate of medium, the following equation shall be used for the initial selection of the pipe diameter.
