Textiles — Water resistance — Rain tests: exposure to a horizontal water spray
1 Scope
This standard specifies the method for measuring the penetration resistance of fabrics to spray water with a certain impact strength. The penetration resistance of fabrics to rain can be predicted by measuring the penetration of fabrics to spray water. This method can also be used to test the fabrics under the action of spray water with different impact strength, and draw a complete penetration resistance curve of the fabrics.
This standard is applicable to any textile fabric, which may or may not have been given a water-resistant or water-repellent finish, especially to fabrics with strong water resistance.

3 Term and definition
For the purposes of this standard, the following term and definition applies.
3.1
water resistance
characteristic indicating the ability to resist wetting and penetration by water
4 Principles
A test specimen, backed by a weighed blotter, is sprayed with water for 5 min under controlled conditions. The blotter is then reweighed to determine the mass of water which has leaked through the specimen during the test.
