GB/T 16257-2008 Textile fibres - Test method for length and length distribution of staple fibres - Measurement of single fibres
1 Scope
This standard specifies the test methods for measurement of the length and length distribution of staple fibres by measuring single fibres one by one.
This standard is applicable to textile staple fibres.

The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) to, or revisions, of any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition applies.
GB 6529 Textiles - Standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing
GB/T 8170 Rules for rounding off of numberical values
3 Principle
Measure the length of straightened fibres one by one, classify them according to a certain length spacing, and calculate the length and length distribution of fibres based on the length and number of fibres in each class.
4 Instruments and tools
a) Single fibre length measuring instrument.
b) Transparent glass plate.
c) Velvet board (with a color in contrast with that of the measured fibres).
d) Paraffin oil.
e) Pointed forceps and curved-tip forceps.
f) Steel ruler, with measuring ranges of 150mm and 300mm, and a division of 0.5mm.
5 Standard atmosphere for preconditioning, conditioning and testing
Standard atmosphere for preconditioning, conditioning and testing shall be second-level standard atmosphere in temperate zones specified in GB 6529.
6 Sampling
Take the test samples according to the product standards corresponding to the type of fibres being tested.
