GB/T 12496.10-1999 Test methods of wooden activated carbon - Determination of methylene blue adsorption
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the method for determining methylene blue adsorption of wooden activated carbon.
This Standard is applicable to wooden activated carbon.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this standard, constitute provisions of This standard. At the time of publication, all editions listed are valid. All the standards will be modified, however, parties to agreements based on this standard shall investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the documents indicated below

GB/T 9721-1988 Chemical reagent - General rules for the molecular absorption spectrophotometry (ultraviolet and visible)
3 Method summary
Mix the sample with a certain amount (in ml) of methylene blue solution for reaction and then filter. Measure the absorbance of the filtrate by a spectrophotometer. If the absorbance is lower than that of the standard solution with the specified concentration, the required volume (in ml) of methylene blue is the adsorption of methylene blue of the activated carbon sample.
4 Main instruments
4.1 Electric agitator (reciprocating type), with a frequency of about 275 times/min.
4.2 Spectrophotometer (GB/T 9721).
5 Reagents and solutions:
The water used in this Standard shall meet Class 3 water specified in GB/T 6682, and the reagents listed herein shall be analytical pure except as otherwise specified.
5.1 Methylene blue indicator.
