Primary batteries — Part 4: Safety of lithium batteries
1 Scope
This part specifies tests and requirements for primary lithium batteries to ensure their safe operation under intended use and reasonably foreseeable misuse.
Note: Primary lithium batteries that are standardized in GB/T 8897.2 are expected to meet all applicable requirements herein. It is understood that consideration of this part might also be given to measuring and/or ensuring the safety of non-standardized primary lithium batteries. In either case, no claim or warranty is made that compliance or non-compliance with this standard will fulfil or not fulfil any of the user’s particular purposes or needs.
2 Normative references
The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this part, constitute provisions of this part. For dated references, subsequent amendments to (excluding correction to), or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this part are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document applies.

aggregate lithium content
total lithium content of the cells comprising a battery
3.2
primary battery
one or more cells fitted with devices necessary for use, for example case, terminals, marking and protective devices
3.3
button cell
cell with a cylindrical shape in which the overall height is less than the diameter, e.g. in the shape of a button or a coin
3.4
primary cell
basic functional unit of power supply, which is designed as non-chargeable and can directly convert chemical energy into electrical energy It consists of electrodes, electrolyte, a container, terminals and usually an isolation layer
