Mining machinery - Safety signs - Part 1: General principles
1 Scope
This part of GB 25517 outlines the objectives of safety signs for mining machinery, and specifies the principles of use, basic forms, content composition, color, dimension and manufacture of safety signs that shall be indicated for possible mechanical hazards on mining machinery products.
This part is applicable to the safety signs involved in solid mineral mining, separation and processing machines specified in GB/T 7679.

3 Objectives and general requirements of safety signs
3.1 Principle of reducing risks by design:
Safety runs through the design, manufacture, operation, description and inspection of the machinery. Without prejudice to the functions of the product, the risks can be fully reduced or eliminated with the following measures:
——Selecting appropriate structures and constituent materials to eliminate or reduce the hazards;
——Minimizing the need to get operators involved in the hazardous area to confine the risks they face;
——Hazards that cannot be eliminated or adequately confined by design shall be avoided by using protective devices or other safety devices.
Although appropriate design has been adopted to avoid hazards as much as possible, there may still be legacy risks, and safety signs are used to warn operators and other personnel of the relevant legacy risks.
3.2 The objectives of a safety sign are to:
——alert persons to an existing or potential hazard;
——identify the hazard;
——describe the nature of the hazard;
——explain the consequences of potential injury from the hazard;
——instruct persons about how to avoid the hazard.
3.3 The safety signs shall be so located as to:
——conspicuously and effectively remind existing or potential hazards;
——accurately and intuitively display the nature of the hazards;
——clearly show the personnel how to avoid the hazards.
3.4 According to the possible hazard severity of the mining machinery and its parts, the corresponding safety signs shall be placed on the machine and included in the operator's manual. Safety signs on the machine shall be located in the area near the hazards or in the control area from where the hazards can be prevented, and it shall be ensured that there are no fixed obstacles hindering the normal viewing and reading of the safety signs.
3.5 Safety signs shall be secured firmly, written in legible text, and distinctive from the machine, and their expected life shall comply with the requirements in GB 18209.2 that the signs shall survive the life of the machines.
