3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
retractable type fall arrester
device which can be locked and braked by a change in speed in the event of a fall
Note: It contains a rope or strap with a length that can be extended with the movement of the operator.
3.2
integral-rescue facility
rescue component completely integrated with the retractable type fall arrester
Note 1: It is used by rescuers to lift or lower people suspended by retractable type fall arrester.
Note 2: The integral-rescue facility is classified into unidirectional and bi-directional ones.
3.3
retractable type fall arrester lifeline
rope or strap with a length that can be extended in retractable type fall arrester
3.4
energy absorber
component that absorbs part of the impact energy and reduces the impact force in the event of a fall
3.5
connector
component with a normally closed valve used to connect and separate the components of fall system
3.6
fall indicator
component that shows whether the retractable type fall arrester has withstood the impact of falling and provides a visual indication for users
3.7
length of lifeline
length that can be extended by a retractable type fall arrester lifeline
3.8
fall distance
vertical distance from the initial position to the final position of the test weight in dynamic performance test
3.9
anchor device
component used to connect retractable type fall arrester to fixtures (walls, scaffolding, floors, etc.)
Note: Anchor device is not a part of retractable type fall arrester, but is closely related to the use of retractable type fall arrester.
3.10
maximum rated load
maximum mass that the retractable type fall arrester can bear when in use as specified by the manufacturer
Note: It includes the dead load of operators and the mass of tools and equipment they carry, expressed in kilogram (kg).
3.11
minimum rated load
minimum mass to enable the self-locking function to start as specified by the manufacturer
Note: It does not include the mass of tools and equipment carried, expressed in kilogram (kg).
3.12
maximum working length
distance between the anchor point and its end when the retractable type fall arrester lifeline is fully extended
4 Classification and labeling
4.1 Classification
4.1.1 According to the type of retractable type fall arrester lifeline, the retractable type fall arrester is classified into: ribbon retractable type fall arrester, fiber rope retractable type fall arrester and wire rope retractable type fall arrester.
4.1.2 According to the function, the retractable type fall arrester is classified into that with basic performance and that with special performance. Retractable type fall arrester with basic performance is a retractable type fall arrester with basic protective performance and suitable for general workplaces while retractable type fall arrester with special performance is a retractable type fall arrester with one or more special performances in addition to basic protective performance and suitable for special workplaces corresponding to its performance. Special performance includes integral-rescue facility performance, dust resistance, oil rub resistance and horizontal installation.
