GB 12005.1-1989 Determination for limiting viscosity number of polyacrylamide
1 Subject content and application scope
This standard specifies the use of dilution method and one point method to determine the limiting viscosity number of polyacrylamide.
The dilution method specified in this standard is applicable to the accurate determination of limiting viscosity number, and the one point method is applicable to the general determination of limiting viscosity number.
This standard is applicable to the determination for limiting viscosity number of powdery or gelatinous nonionic polyacrylamide and anionic polyacrylamide prepared by different polymerization methods.
This standard is not applicable to the determination for limiting viscosity number of polyacrylamide containing additives. For such samples, this standard may be used for determination after removing the additives.
The limiting viscosity number determined in this standard can compare the molecular weight of nonionic polyacrylamide or anionic polyacrylamide with the same hydrolysis degree.

3 Terms
Limiting viscosity number: defined according to GB 2035, in mL/g.
4 Principle
Prepare a solution with the specimen concentration of 0.0005 g/mL to 0.001 g/mL and the sodium chloride concentration of c(NaCl) = 1.00 mol/L according to the specified conditions. The flow time of the solvent and the solution are measured by an air-bearing liquid column ubbelohde viscometer, and the limiting viscosity number is calculated according to the measured values.
