1 General Provisions
1.0.1 This code is formulated in view of reasonably setting natural smoke ventilation system, standardizing such links as design, construction, acceptance and maintenance of natural smoke ventilation system, controlling the extension of smoke from building fire and protecting personal and property safety.
1.0.2 This code is applicable to the design, construction, acceptance and maintenance management for natural smoke ventilation system in constructed, reconstructed and extended civil building engineering.
1.0.3 Natural smoke ventilation system shall be designed according to the fire smoke flow characteristics from different building spaces by adopting reliable technical measures so as to achieve the purpose of safety and usability, advanced technology, economy and rationality.
1.0.4 The modules and components adopted for natural smoke ventilation system must satisfy the requirements of current national, professional and local standards.
1.0.5 The design, construction, commissioning and acceptance of natural smoke ventilation system shall comply with not only the requirements of this code but also those specified in relevant current national and Beijing standards.
2 Terms and Symbols
2.1 Terms
2.1.1 Automatic natural smoke ventilator
Device capable of automatically opening through automatic fire alarm system linkage control and exhausting the smog and hot smoke in case of a fire. Automatic natural smoke ventilator may be classified into split natural smoke ventilator, single-opening natural smoke ventilator and louver natural smoke ventilator by ventilator style.
2.1.2 Natural smoke ventilation system
Smoke ventilation system consisting of such devices as pivoted external window, ventilating louver or automatic natural smoke ventilator connecting outside of building and relevant modules and exhausting the fire smoke out of the building by using the flotage of fire hot smoke airflow and the outside wind action.
2.1.3 Smoke vent opening
The part connecting the devices (including manual pivoted external window, fixed ventilating louver or automatic natural smoke ventilator which compose the natural smoke ventilation system) to outdoor space.
2.1.4 Smoke barriers, smoke curtains
Smoke blocking separate facilities made of incombustible material, vertically installed under building ceiling, cross beam or suspended ceiling and capable of forming certain smoke reserving space.
2.1.5 Depth of the smoke layer
Design legible height necessary for satisfying personnel evacuation and depth of the smoke layer determined for ensuring the smoke ventilation effectiveness.
2.1.6 Smoke reservoir
Space formed by smoke barriers (smoke curtains), structural beam and space building envelope on the top of the building and used for smoke accumulation. The height of smoke reservoir is the depth of the smoke layer.
2.2 Symbols
H-the clearance height of building space, m; the height from building space ceiling or soffit to floor (ground);
d-the depth of the smoke layer, m; the design depth of the smoke layer (smoke reservoir height) equals to the space clearance height subtracting the design legible height;
z-the design legible height, m, which shall not be less than 1.8m.
3 System Design
3.1 General Regulation
3.1.1 Various building sites or parts provided with the conditions for natural smoke ventilation setting should adopt with natural smoke ventilation system. The following sites or parts shall not adopt with natural smoke ventilation system:
1 High rise building with building height exceeding 100m;
2 Inside walkway in such entertainment venues for singing, dancing and broadcasting as KTV, video hall, night club kara ok hull and game house with the length exceeding 40m; inside walkway in other buildings with the length exceeding 60m.
3.1.2 As for courtyard and such public sites with large space as business hall, exhibition hall, auditorium, theater, stage, gymnasium, passenger station and terminal with the building area larger than 500 m2 and building clearance height larger than 6m, where the natural smoke ventilation is adopted, automatic natural smoke ventilator or fixed shutter shall be arranged as the smoke vent opening modules.
3.1.3 Automatic natural smoke ventilator shall be linked to automatic fire alarm system. The design of automatic fire alarm system linked to automatic natural smoke ventilator shall meet the requirements of "Code for Design of Automatic Fire Alarm System" (GB 50116).
